Unix/Linux Engineer with scripting and Systems/Network monitoring experience

We are seeking a Unix/Linux Engineer with scripting and Systems/Network monitoring experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals. This position will be located in Eagan, MN. This is an on-site position with no telecommute.

The ideal candidate will join the Enterprise Systems Monitoring UNIX Engineering staff which is responsible for the scripting and automation of tasks to assist with monitoring of UNIX/Linux systems and applications. The candidate will engineer and maintain applications, including the creation of new proprietary packages. We are looking for someone who has a strong understanding of the flow and monitoring of events, with the ability to analyze, audit, and reconcile events within a large enterprise. This includes working with event correlation, criticality, and service impact assessments. This candidate must be strong in scripting (PERL and BASH).

Roles and Responsibilities include but not limited to:
• Support and engineer novel solutions for monitoring UNIX/Linux systems in a large enterprise. This will include creating and modifying shell scripts in Perl and other languages.
• Engineer new designs, providing an upgrade path to newer monitoring applications while maintaining and supporting existing infrastructure to include creation and maintenance of design documents.
• Coordinate with UNIX administrators and engineers regularly, providing OS level monitoring, data analytics, and customized thresholds for efficient enterprise operation.
• Work with a variety of application teams, supporting them in monitoring their applications to ensure reliability
• Provide daily troubleshooting with regards to monitoring and application management; working with a deep knowledge of UNIX based systems
• Work with a dedicated 24x7 operations team, engineering new ways of efficiently triaging events generated by the monitoring tools to include support, creation and maintenance of KB and SOP documents.
• While working with other team members, develop and enhance current applications already existing across the enterprise, which make up the monitoring infrastructure (threshold management, event management, software package design and management, etc)
• Develop and maintain proprietary packages providing an ITIL based monitoring infrastructure
• Efficiently manage Zabbix and proprietary monitoring tools

Basic Qualifications:
• Bachelor's Degree in information systems, business, computer science, or related field and a minimum of 6 years of progressively more difficult experience. Additional experience may be substituted in lieu of degree.
• Candidate must possess a very strong working knowledge on Linux and UNIX based operating systems, including command line.
• Strong Shell scripting on UNIX/Linux based systems (very high emphasis on BASH and KSH93).
• Past experience with all of the fundamentals of scripting in a UNIX/Linux environment (loops, arrays, job control, IPC, data flow, co-processes, etc)
• Strong knowledge of Perl. Must be able to read and write in Perl effectively (Understanding fundamental Perl terminology and their implementation: Arrays, Hashes, References, Loops, Regular Expressions, etc)
• Competent with networking (routing) in a UNIX environment, with foundational knowledge of DNS, SNMP, and security
• Ability to obtain a Position of Public Trust Clearance - US Citizen or Permanent Resident (Green Card Holder), and must not have traveled outside the US for a combined total of 6 months or more in last 5 years.
• Must have resided in the US for the last 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of databases (Oracle, Sybase, SQL, etc)
• Experience working in a large enterprise, emphasis on ITIL based methodologies (Change Management, being a service provider, etc)
• The applicant should be intimately familiar with shell scripting, understanding what POSIX and SUS are and how they apply to a heterogeneous UNIX environment
• Expert level knowledge of the following scripting/programming languages (BASH, KSH93, Perl, C)
• Experience with monitoring in a large enterprise using Zabbix or other proprietary and open software (IBM Tivoli, HP OpenView, Nagios, Icinga, etc)
• Experienced in providing sound event management and event correlation in a large enterprise
• LPI or RedHat certification
• ITILv3 Foundation Certification
