Position Purpose:
The primary purpose of this position is to provide driving services for the needs of residents in accordance with ERS policies and procedures and applicable state motor vehicle laws.

Essential Functions/Accountabilities:
Frequency

Function

Daily

Drives ERS buses and other vehicles on trips including, but not limited to, grocery shopping, other shopping, and pleasure trips.

Daily

Drives ERS vehicles, utilizing safe driving practices including the observance of all State, Federal, and Local laws.

Daily

Assists residents getting in and out of vehicles, maintaining safety procedures and ensuring resident clearance of closing doors. Offers assistance with packages.

Daily

Is reachable by cell phone or text message when on outings, answering or responding only when it is safe to do so.

Daily

Manages the daily operations of the transportation functions within the Greater Cincinnati facilities, including full-time and on-call drivers, ensuring that an adequate number of appropriately trained personnel are on duty.
Maintains passenger lists for each trip.

Monthly

Schedules bus trips for Cincinnati & Amelia A.L. properties. Creates monthly bus trip calendar and daily sign-up sheets, utilizing Microsoft Word. Notifies Volunteer Coordinator of all scheduled bus trips for publication in resident newsletters.

Yearly

Maintains all registration and auto insurance for all ERS vehicles.

As needed

Maintains the appearance of ERS vehicles by exterior and interior cleaning.

As needed

Maintains ERS vehicles in excellent working condition by arranging for and informing Director of Resident & Health Services when preventative maintenance is due and when mechanical problems arise with any part of the bus, including the mechanical lift.

As needed

Replenishes gas in vehicles after use, turning over all receipts to Transportation Supervisor for payment.

As needed

Reports incidents/accidents to the police and the supervisor as soon as possible. Completes and submits to supervisor an ERS incident report form within 1 day of any incident or accident occurring.

Minimum Qualifications:
Should possess a high school diploma or its equivalent.
Must possess a valid State of Ohio Commercial Driver s License (CDL), Class C.
Must be able to read, write, and communicate effectively in the English language.
Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.
Must be able to deal tactfully with residents, family members, visitors, and the general public and to work harmoniously with other staff members.
Be a minimum of 18 years of age.
Must have patience, tact, cheerful disposition and enthusiasm, as well as be willing to handle residents based on the maturity level at which they are functioning.
Must be able to cope with the mental and emotional stress of the position.
Must possess adequate sight/hearing senses, or use prosthetics that will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of this position can be fully met.
Must be able to lift, move, or push an equivalence of fifty (50) or more pounds on a regular basis.

Working Conditions:
Will work in poverty and high crime areas.
Works in an outdoor environment while traveling in vehicle to and from scheduled trips and while providing service for the vehicle. Is subject to extremes in climate conditions.
Sits, stands, bends, and moves about by walking intermittently during working hours.
Is involved with residents, family members, personnel, and visitors under varied conditions and circumstances.
Is subject to hostile and emotionally upset residents.
