Xilinx, Inc., a subsidiary of AMD, Inc., is hiring Staff Software Engineer SWE (APPS) to Analyze, design, program, debug, and modify software enhancements and/or new products used in local, networked, cloud-based or Internet-related computer programs. Design and implement hardware accelerators for real-time video encoding and video processing functions. Participate in research and development of new video codec standards. Design and implement video compression algorithms to improve the quality of existing video codecs implemented in FPGA or ASIC. Optimize video algorithms with the purpose of enabling the algorithm to fit within the limited resources of an FPGA. Perform video quality evaluations and benchmarking against competitive solutions. Work with customers to tune video encoding parameters for best results across a variety of content.

Qualifications: Degree required

PhD or foreign equivalent in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field

Qualifications: Amount and type of experience required: 3 years experience as Research Engineer or related occupation.

Alternate combination of education and experience: Master's degree or foreign equivalent in in Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, Computer Engineering or related field plus 6 years experience in position or related occupation.

Specific skills required: The following skills are required:

Must have at least 1 year of prior work experience in the following:
  • Digital image/video processing and video encoding technologies
  • Multimedia compression standards: HEVC, H.264, VP9 or AV1
  • Software development skills in C and C++
  • Encoder algorithm development experience
  • Proven participation in encoder standardization bodies
  • Analytical and debugging skills
  • Video visual quality assessment and improvement
