Job Summary

Reporting to the Director of Enterprise Services, the Programmer/Analyst has the responsibility to define, develop, test, analyze, and maintain software applications in support of the achievement of business requirements. Tasks include, but are not limited to: writing, coding, testing, and analyzing software programs and applications. The Programmer/Analyst will also research, design, document, and modify software specifications throughout the production lifecycle. The Programmer/Analyst works collaboratively with members of the Carey community to achieve user-focused, flexible, cost-effective, and secure enterprise services.

Duties and Responsibilities

  1. Assists the University in implementing the statement of purpose
  2. Assists the University in implementing the strategic technology plan
  3. Assists in the annual evaluation of the effectiveness of the Information Technology Department
  4. Assists in the management of the day-to-day operations of the student information system
  5. Provides database and programming support for Enterprise Services products and services
  6. Participates in the software patching process for Enterprise Services products and services
  7. Develops processes and procedures to reduce data entry errors
  8. Creates reports and custom procedures in support of departmental processes and requirements
  9. Provides technical support and knowledge sharing/training to end users
  10. Assists with escalated help desk requests
  11. Provides after-hours support and maintenance when necessary
  12. Responds quickly and adapts to changes in priorities
  13. Remains current in emerging technologies and their application to the higher education environment
  14. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Enterprise Services and Chief Information Officer


Required Qualifications
  • 2+ years of experience with programming/development technology including but not limited to XML, SSIS, ASP, HTML, CSS, Java, JavaScript, SQL, VBS, and PowerShell
  • Collaborate with and support team members and staff in other administrative offices and academic units
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including documentation and training for end-users and students
  • Possess strong time management and organizational skills
  • Must be able to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Be proactive in providing superior customer service to staff and students
  • Have a strong desire to analyze, diagnose, and address highly complex technical issues while being flexible and maintaining critical thinking and excellent communication under pressure

Preferred Qualifications
  • BS in a technology-related field,
  • 5+ years of experience supporting both in-house and vendor software solutions
  • In-depth knowledge of the following: PHP, CSS, API usage, and image editing software

Physical Demands
  • Must possess mobility to work in a standard office setting and to use standard office equipment including a computer
  • Must have the vision to read printed materials and a computer screen; hearing and speech to communicate in person, over the telephone, and via video conferencing systems and applications
  • Must have the ability to sit or stand for extended periods
  • Must have strength and agility to move files, paper boxes, and minor office equipment
  • Must have the ability to lift and carry computer equipment
  • Must have the ability to climb and work from ladders
