Mechanical Design Manager - Manufacturing - Electronics

Job purpose

Within the Electronics Engineering team, leads and manages the Mechanical Design team developing mechanical designs to fulfil customer and legislative requirements in a challenging context of high-volume manufacturing, high quality, and harsh environment Electronic Control Unit products for use in our current portfolio and future zero emission propulsion systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Responsible for Mechanical Design team within the Electronics engineering organisation
  • Propose career and succession training plans for team members and identify key personnel
  • Perform timely goal setting and performance reviews for direct reports
  • Execute Electronic Design in line with defined road map, including development facilities tools and processes
  • Ensure that area of responsibility is compliant with IPR policy
  • Approve product releases and department spending in line with approval process
  • Support regular customer project meetings, (including follow up) when needed, and develop relationships with customer, product engineering teams, and suppliers at appropriate levels
  • Ensure teams support and follow the required processes, and promote the use of development and problem-solving tools
  • Support and develop cross functional working practices and simultaneous engineering
  • Deploy targets and track team performance. Review, support and track plans within teams or site
  • Cascade information to team members and provide feedback to management
  • Balance priorities, at a team level for site/function/project to achieve targets and escalate non resolved issues quickly and obtain direction from management
  • Evaluate customer and internal requirements and identify gaps to current products
  • Prepare product designs to meet internal & customer requirements
  • Select appropriate materials and coatings
  • Maintain and update BOD guidelines
  • Prepare design documentation
  • Create and maintain product DFMEA
  • Ensure that designs meet cost targets, manufacturability requirements and EOL recycling targets

What we're looking for

  • University Masters degree in Electrical Engineering or suitable equivalent qualification and experience
  • A working knowledge of Functional Safety ISO26262 and FMEA/FMEDA
  • Able to articulate information appropriately for the audience (customer, supplier, employees etc)
  • Fluent English; other languages desirable
