The fast-growing Lithium R&D team located in Kings Mountain, NC is looking for a technician to join a diverse and passionate team developing new lithium-based products and technologies for Albemarle and its customers.

The "Lithium Anode Technician" position's primary responsibility will be to help research and develop new lithium metal anodes for current and future generations of high energy density batteries.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Conduct laboratory experiments and operate production equipment in compliance with Corporate Health, Safety and Environmental (HS&E) policies and maintain a safe lab and production environment
  • Safely operate, diagnose problems, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory and production equipment
  • Prepare lithium ingots, foils, and laminates for R&D and customers at the gram to kilogram scale
  • Appropriately document and share results
  • Author and follow standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Assist with supply and chemical inventory management and sample shipment
  • Collaborate with a broad technical team and proactively share data to achieve optimal outcomes and meet timebound technical milestones

Required Qualifications
  • Associate's degree, preferably in science, technology, or engineering
  • At least 2 years of experience in a laboratory or production role
  • Strong commitment to safety
  • Good interpersonal skills and takes on new opportunities with enthusiasm
  • Picks up on technical skills quickly
  • Able to prioritize and manage time effectively
  • Communicates effectively by providing timely information on projects and testing
  • Operates effectively with shifting priorities to meet business needs
  • Basic computer ability with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to maintain records/documents such as lab notebooks and/or instrument logs

Desired Competencies
  • At least 1 year of hands-on experience with lithium metal
  • Skilled in safely handling air-sensitive chemicals, especially in an industrial setting
  • Experience working inside a dry room and with glovebox operation
  • Experience using Microsoft Teams and SAP software
  • Experience with roll-to-roll or coating processes and/or equipment
  • Strong strategic thinking and problem-solving skills
  • High attention to detail, accuracy, and precision
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Physical Demands
  • Must be able to work in a chemical laboratory, production area, and/or dry room, which may require standing for up to 75% of the time
  • Must be able to physically operate lab-scale roll-to-roll equipment
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to 35 pounds
