Aeromechanics Modeling and Simulation Engineer

Summary of Position:

The engineer in this position will be responsible for tasks associated with aircraft handling qualities, modeling and simulation. The engineer will coordinate with multi-geographies to pursue commonality in simulation tools and processes. This engineer will support US based flight simulation capabilities including implementation of the technology roadmap, improvements, and maintenance of the System Integration and Simulation Laboratory (SISL). This includes developing requirement for the simulation lab and identifying appropriate means to implement them between internal and external resources. This engineer will develop code necessary to interface simulation elements to establish a high-fidelity simulation environment.

Additional responsibilities include supporting flight mechanics activities on several projects including R&D, to include flight test data analysis, simulation and evaluation of complex aeromechanics tasks. As a member of the larger LHD ASI organization, the engineer will participate in projects that span multiple geographies as determined by the company need and the skills and experience this engineer brings to the company.

This position reports to the Manager of Aircraft Systems Integration in the US with strong communication ties to other department heads and provides close coordination with the Head of Discipline and to the area Technical Leaders / System Engineers.

This position may include access to certain technology and/or software source code, that will be subject to U.S. export control laws and certain software that can only be used and accessed by US Persons. Accordingly, this position is limited to applicants that are US Persons, i.e., a US citizen, a lawful permanent resident.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support the implementation of new features to the engineering flight simulation lab. Develop implementation strategies and coordinate with other departments to identify optimal solutions. Develop code to simulate and emulate systems. Develop code to interface simulation elements including software and hardware. Develop and execute verification tests.

Manage simulation and analytical models to ensure accuracy and effectiveness for design and certification. Develop analytical tools and processes to efficiently achieve program technical objectives. Coordinate with multi-geography ASI to develop commonality in tools and processes.

Participate in aircraft handling qualities certification activities. Work with flight test department, DERs, pilots, and other engineers to execute certification plans.

Conduct analytical studies to support the safe expansion of the AW609 flight envelope, the development of systems that impact aircraft performance and handling qualities and provide the technical justifications that drive program decisions.

Support flight test program by participating in test plan development, real time test monitoring in telemetry room.

Develop and implement innovative simulation capabilities that satisfy customer and certification requirements.

With modeling and simulation tools, support the development of aircraft concepts and proposal preparation for major projects including US Future Vertical Lift and NATO Vertical Lift.


MS in a relevant Engineering field (e.g. Aerospace, Mechanical, Electrical).

Degree, Course work, or relevant experience in computer science and software development.


  • 5+ years of experience developing engineering simulation models of aircraft and rotorcraft and simulation environments.
  • Experience with physics-based flight simulation techniques and tools such as Flight Lab or xPlane.
  • Hands on experience with software development integration.
  • Experience with Linux operating system
  • Scientific computing experience (MATLAB, Numpy, etc)
  • Command of more than one programing language (C++, Python, JAVA)
